HeartMind Institute is developing a network of schools that will offer a holistic hands-on approach to education; one that nurtures all facets of the human being -- Heart, Mind, Body, and Spirit. Too often in education the focus is placed almost entirely on the accumulation of information, with little or no attention given to the whole person. It's our intention to correct that oversight with our Holistic Hands-On Curriculum. The school pictured here is the Islandwood School in Bainbridge Island, Washington. We plan to model our campus after Islandwood.
Holistic Learning takes the entire person into consideration - Heart, Mind, Body, and Spirit. As young people develop, it's essential that they're provided with opportunities and experiences that nurture all facets of their being, and that they're given the proper tools to become well-rounded, open-minded individuals. It's also important that the learning process coincides with brain development, as they move from concrete thinking, to abstract thinking, to metacognition. These criteria are the foundation on which the HeartMind Holistic Schools are built.
We believe that learning is most effective when it's Hands-On -- which is to say that students learn best by DOING. But, our Hands-On approach is not limited to students. Our teachers are also very Hands-On, which means that they'll take the time to consider each student's strengths and weaknesses, and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that give every child a better opportunity to learn at his or her own pace and skill level. We believe that each student deserves a fair amount of personal attention, and, in order to assure that this can happen, each class will be limited to 20 pupils.
In keeping with our Holistic Hands-On approach to learning, we've taken Learning Styles into consideration. We know that people assimilate information differently --some are visual, some are auditory, and some are kinesthetic. That's why we'll provide our students with the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in educational activities that employ all of their senses. They'll learn by seeing, feeling, smelling, hearing, and tasting, rather than by simply memorizing a list of facts, and then attempting to recall them on a test. When all the senses are used this way, and learning is experiential, understanding and retention are ingrained at the cellular level.
HeartMind Holistic School campuses will provide an idyllic, sanctuary-like environment, designed to spark the imagination, foster creativity, and facilitate our Holistic Hands-On approach to learning. Outdoor classrooms and activities will be a fundamental part of the learning process. Students will be involved in the planning, building, and maintenance of various outdoor classrooms, as well as the design, construction and maintenance of one or more koi ponds on campus. Organic Gardening will also be an integral part of the curriculum, with students utilizing the grounds for growing a variety of organic fruits and vegetables. In addition, every campus will have a student-built greenhouse for hydroponics. Other outdoor activities will include: nature walks, exercise, and picnic lunches.
In addition to providing our students with exemplary core curriculum studies in Math, Language, Natural Science*, Computer Science, and History, HeartMind Holistic Schools will also offer classes in:
*Natural Science classes will include Biofield Science - along with a HeartMind MasterClass component in each grade.
It is our heartfelt mission to nurture and honor the innate wisdom and creativity within every child whom we have the pleasure of serving.
We pledge to do this through our holistic approach to the entire living wonder that is the student. At HeartMind Schools, we provide a rich and fertile learning environment for each student to begin the magnificent unfoldment that is at the heart of who they are.
This process neither begins nor ends with us; it is simply our mission (and honor) to recognize it, to encourage it, and to allow it to bloom in a safe and nurturing environment. It is divinely within each child already; we simply endeavor to call it forth.
This is our mission. This is who we are.
"Let us keep an Open Heart that inspires and guides an Open Mind."
We plan to open the first HeartMind Holistic School in August, 2020. If you are a parent or teacher who would like to get more information about the school, please drop us a line below:
